Quality and delivery flexibility are elementary in order to be and remain fast responding and at the cutting edge of technology. HELLER achieves this quality level through careful selection of delivery partners and therefore in 2013 initiated the S.T.E.P. development programme (Strategic Together Evolution Partnership). Its goal is to help the company to remain competitive in the future in terms of Purchasing and Logistics. The main focus is on short lead times, adherence to delivery deadlines and global positioning with efficient processes. This includes material provisioning at the global production locations and part availability for global service. The prerequisite is having reliable and cooperative partners who were honoured at the HELLER Suppliers Day. For the evaluation, HELLER uses SAP as a basis. In the process, product quality was weighted at 50 percent, adherence to deadlines at 37.5 percent and adherence to quantities at 12.5 percent. This year, the top 40 suppliers in the ‘Best Performance’ category were invited to Nürtingen.
Highest degree of compliance
The award for ‘Best Performance’ was presented to HIWIN GmbH, Motion Control & Systems from Offenburg. HIWIN develops and produces drive components tailored to the requirements of machine tools, e.g. the ball screw drives integrated into HELLER machining centres. According to HELLER’s definition, quality means meeting the requirements of the HELLER customers and the resulting expectations on the suppliers. In this respect, HIWIN achieved the highest degree of compliance. To Werner Mäurer, Managing Director of HIWIN GmbH, the award first of all is an appreciation of the services the company has provided to HELLER over many years: “Of course this award makes me feel proud because it confirms that we are doing things right. At the same time, it is an acknowledgement for all our employees involved in the process. Additionally, it is also important for us to know what we can learn from this for other customers. We supply a very large number of ball screw drives to HELLER. The company has been a major customer of ours for approx. 13 years now. The topic mentioned here today of communicating delivery reliability issues early is less of a problem for us. Whenever we confirm a deadline, we adhere to it, despite the enormous growth rates we are currently experiencing.” According to Mäurer, HIWIN achieves this through efficient planning and adds that the award was also a motivation for the company’s employees and will be given a place of honour in Offenburg.
By the way…: The prerequisite to qualify for this event is a minimum annual turnover with HELLER of €250,000 and a delivery performance of at least 86 out of 100 points this year.
